Volunteer Impact – Ken Holt
Ken Holt joined Good Shepherd Food Bank as a volunteer when the pandemic hit and his service continues to help in a big way to provide nutritious food to people struggling with hunger in Maine. Ken shares, “I’m becoming more aware each day of the needs of the communities we support and what Good Shepherd Food Bank does to help support those needs. I know that this support doesn’t just happen and getting volunteers is harder now than it has ever been due to COVID-19.” Ken works for Guiding Stars, whose parent company, Ahold Delhaize, is also the parent company for Hannaford. Both organizations support community outreach through volunteerism. “They are very willing to let me arrange my work schedule so that I can contribute my time to the Food Bank’s efforts,” says Ken. Ken’s favorite thing about volunteering with Good Shepherd Food Bank is the variety of tasks. “I’ve been trained to inspect, repack, and palletize the product. This makes me feel like I can add additional value since I can step into whatever role they need me for while I’m there.” Ken adds that he enjoys the people he works with and the appreciation they show him.
