Good Shepherd Food Bank Announces 2024 Nourish and Flourish Grant Awardees

Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine is proud to announce the awardees of the 2024 Nourish and Flourish Grant, a program aimed at improving the experience of accessing food for individuals and families facing food insecurity across Maine.

The Nourish and Flourish Grant program is part of Good Shepherd Food Bank’s ongoing commitment to enhancing dignity, agency, and community belonging for those experiencing food insecurity. This year’s grant cycle saw the most competitive pool of applications to date, with over 80 organizations requesting more than $1.6 million in funding to improve their food distribution programs and better serve their neighbors.

The Nourish and Flourish Grants can be used for, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Detailed, targeted strategies that incorporate the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, and rural and remote community members to better reach, welcome, and nourish more neighbors.
  • Identifying and removing physical and other barriers to accessing charitable food for individuals experiencing food insecurity.
  • Creating or enhancing programs that improve the dignity of experience for people accessing charitable food.
  • Collaboration with partners in the charitable food network to explore the feasibility of providing additional ‘wraparound’ services.
  • Addressing equity issues to ensure that the charitable food network is welcoming, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all people.

Good Shepherd Food Bank looks forward to seeing the positive impact these grants will have on the communities they serve, helping to foster a stronger, more inclusive Maine where all neighbors have access to the food they need with respect and dignity.
