STATEWIDE, Maine – This season, shoppers using SNAP/EBT can earn Farm Fresh Reward vouchers to spend on seeds, seedlings, and Maine-grown fruit and vegetables at participating retailers throughout the state. With Farm Fresh Rewards, shoppers who buy local food with SNAP/EBT earn bonus dollars to buy more locally-grown fruit and vegetables.
Farm Fresh Rewards is a nutrition incentives program designed to stretch budgets and improve fresh food access for thousands of enrolled Mainers. If paying with SNAP/EBT at any participating store, customers who spend $10 on local food receive a $5 voucher for local food-producing seeds and seedlings and fresh, frozen, and dried local fruit and vegetable purchases.

Farm Fresh Rewards started in 2015, when Maine Farmland Trust and other partners received a major federal grant to expand nutrition incentives to stores selling local food, like co-ops and small grocers. These local retailers provide a vital access point for more Maine farmers to benefit from nutrition incentives. When more Mainers can buy more local food, everyone wins: families can make healthier choices, farmers and local food outlets gain new customers, and local economies thrive.
“Over the past few months, Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine has transitioned into the Farm Fresh Rewards program management role, and effective on May 1, 2022, the Food Bank is leading the program as it moves forward,” stated Amy Fisher, president and CEO at Maine Farmland Trust. “Farm Fresh Rewards has greatly increased access to local Maine foods over the past seven years and I’m enthusiastic that it has found a new home at Good Shepherd Food Bank – an incredible organization with an outstanding commitment to Maine’s local food economy. I am confident that the Food Bank will expand and build upon the Farm Fresh Rewards program in the years to come.”
