Help comes to York County

GSFB Food-Mobile Delivers donated food to York County Agencies.Good Shepherd Food-Mobile Helps York County Agencies.

On October 5th, 2006, Good Shepherd Food-Bank (GSFB) celebrated the first anniversary of its Food-Mobile and made an 8,000- pound delivery of food to the Saco Food Pantry.

The Bon Appetit Meal Program in Biddeford and Washington Avenue United Methodist Church Pantry in Old Orchard Beach were also invited to receive free product for their agency feeding programs.

A year ago, the refurbished beverage truck, donated by Federal Distributors, turned into a mobile food pantry and made it's maiden voyage to the Saco Food Pantry with 7,000 pounds of food. The Food Mobile is used to help partner agencies and food pantries increase their distribution capacity.

The Food Mobile has proved to be a valuable resource for Good Shepherd Food-Bank to help agencies who have limited warehouse space and increasing demands for more food. To date, the food mobile has been used to deliver more than 300,000 pounds of food statewide. Maine's Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger donated $5,000 to help fund Food Mobile deliveries in every county throughout the state over the next two years.

Good Shepherd Food-Bank provides food to more than 45 agencies in York County alone. These partner agencies include food pantries, meal programs, group and foster homes, after school programs for kids, meal program for the elderly, and counseling and recovery centers.
