Catherine McAuley High School Students Donate $2,264.50 to Good Shepherd Food-Bank

In their continued commitment to the core value of service, the young women of Catherine McAuley High School raised $2, 264.50 to benefit Good Shepherd Food-Bank, an agency that seeks to feed Maine’s hungry and works to create an awareness of eliminating hunger in our state. The donation was a result of monies collected from the School’s “Salvage Ball,” coordinated by McAuley junior Jolie Thomas, a dance that encouraged students to put the needs of others first by redirecting the funds they would have spent on a new dress, accessories, etc. to a more pressing need of feeding the hungry.  McAuley’s Key Club also participated in this effort by donating a portion of its proceeds from the School’s annual “Spirit Week” activities. The donation was presented to Melissa Glenn, the Food-Bank’s Public Relations / Events Coordinator, who thanked the student body for their generous support. Glenn explained that more than 175,000 Mainers have been recognized as “food insecure,” meaning that these individuals lack access to nutritional meals and are unsure of when their next meal will be.  McAuley’s contribution will help to provide over 17,000 meals to those in need. Special thanks is extended to junior Jolie Thomas, who worked tirelessly to coordinate the Salvage Ball, and to Marie Eschner, Guidance Director, who supported Jolie in her efforts.  Key Club moderator Jill Cote and junior Samantha Robertson, Key Club President, are also recognized for their volunteer work in making the dance and donation a success.
