Agency Spotlight

Turkeys are Flying out of our Building!

More than ever before in Good Shepherd Food-Bank's history!

Thanks to special financial partners like you, we have been able to provide Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens statewide with $50,000 in product including thousands of turkeys and holiday meal fixings!

The much needed supplies are being distributed now through Thanksgiving as agencies prepare to serve record numbers of holiday meals to those who would otherwise go without.

Thousands of turkeys were distributed this week to GSFB member agencies.

WalMart - Good Works         Oct 15, 2007 - Brewer ME

10 Northeast Wal-Mart Stores have responded to Good Shepherd Food-Bank's need for additional funding. A check for $8,000 was presented to GSFB to meet increased need throughout it's network of non profit agencies in the northeast region.

Good Shepherd Food-Bank's Brewer facility serves approximately 125 member agencies in the greater Bangor Region and reaches agencies in Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo, Aroostook, and Washington Counties.

Our deepest appreciation
goes to our valued partners!

The story of "Stone Soup" seemed a fitting theme to celebrate our valued partners throughout the state. Food donors and many other special friends were recently invited to attend a luncheon provided and sponsored by Beale Street BBQ. Guests were given a token gift of a soup mug and a stone etched with the word "Hope". Tours of the Food-Bank's Auburn facility were offered following the luncheon.

GSFB's Stone Soup Appreciation Luncheon

Executive Director, Rick Small, spoke of the symbolism where in the story of Stone Soup,  each villager had given a portion, to the benefit of the entire community. Rick expressed our gratitude for the many who partner with us and make our work of feeding tens of thousands of Mainers each month possible.  Rick went on to say, "At GSFB, we often refer to our work as "so much more than food. Together, we are reaching into the lives of individual's and families' with the help and diverse services provided through our network of agencies, and people are ultimately given hope. Hope gets people through life's tough challenges."

We all need Hope!
