GSFB eNews - December 2007
Happy Holidays? Maybe not for everyone.

Like this little girl, hundreds of children and families will be in soup lines and visiting local pantries for the Holiday season. Without your help and Good Shepherd Food-Bank, there may be no happy Holidays for them. Thousands of meals have already been provided, through our virtual food drive. But much more is needed.

We are close to reaching our goal to distribute more than $50,000 in food to our agencies during the Holiday Season!

Your gift will be doubled by a generous
matching donor! until December 31

Please consider making a gift to help meet this need.

A special thank you to all who have
already given to this worthwhile effort!

Paying it forward: Bringing hope and smiles

During this year's busy holiday season, an employee of Good Shepherd Food-Bank was scurrying around trying to find the perfect Christmas Tree and came upon a family-run tree sale in his local Southern Maine community.

As he was choosing his own treasure, small talk was made with the local businessman. The man selling trees explained how his family had fallen on tough times as never before. During the conversation he said "if it wasn't for a volunteer opportunity that helps us bring food home for our family each week, my wife and I don't know what we would do". When asked which agency he has been volunteering with, the man gently answered, "Good Shepherd Food-Bank in Auburn. My wife and I have been volunteering there for several months".

A Message
From the Director

We at GSFB, find celebrating the birth of Christ both humbling and exciting. We believe that into our midst came the source of life and great hope in the person of Jesus Christ. It is with that same exhilarating life and hope everlasting that we, together with thousands of volunteers in nearly every community in Maine, strive to meet the cruel challenges of hunger amongst our neighbors. Your support has been, and continues to be, absolutely wonderful, and results in about 1.5 million meals provided each month.

Along with all the recipients of this life saving food, we extend our heartiest thanks. May you enjoy your holiday celebrations and may your New Year be filled with health and prosperity.

God Bless You All,
Rick Small
