Heat or Eat?
Jeremy's neighbor contacted the Food-Bank, and we told him about the programs that allow our hungry neighbors to get food so they aren't forced to choose between buying groceries and paying the bills. We told him about a senior center not far from his home.
The senior center is one of the more than 600 hunger-relief programs that rely on us for food and supplies. They operate a food pantry and serve hot lunches to seniors during the week.
Jeremy has worked all his life and had never been to a food pantry before, and he was amazed and delighted to receive chicken, fresh vegetables, frozen fruit, coffee, and even toothpaste.
Now he goes to the food pantry each month and he also comes to the senior center for hot meals and to participate in some of their many activities. Jeremy and the others who are helped by these programs are so thankful they exist. We'd like to share with you what Jeremy wrote recently...
"I can't thank you enough. I don't know how I'd get through the month without the
groceries and hot meals. I can now keep the apartment a little bit warmer, and with
the food I'm eating, I'm feeling healthier than I have in many months.
