Giving is Better Than Receiving

On October 28, the Food-Bank received a letter from Geraldine Bucklin, the grandmother of one of our youngest donors. Ms. Bucklin told the story of how her seven year-old granddaughter, Sophia Olore, had received a letter from Good Shepherd Food-Bank.
Sophia read the letter that was requesting her help in feeding the hungry children in Maine and when her parents got home from work she told them that she wanted to give $50 to the Food-Bank. Her parents explained that $50 was a lot of money but Sophia insisted. Sophia had been saving her money for a toy that she wanted but decided that she would rather help to feed the hungry children rather than buy a toy.
On November 4, Sophia and her family stopped by the Food-Bank to deliver her donation and to take a tour. Sophia was excited to see what her donation would be a part of.
Sophia Olore is a second grader at Riverton Elementary School. She is performing in the Nutcracker Ballet at Merrill Auditorium this year and is an advocate against childhood hunger.
