Donate Funds

There are many ways to give...

Choose the one that's right for you!

We Promise to Use Your Gifts Wisely! The support of our donors makes all of our efforts to feed hungry people in Maine possible. And because that support is so key to our many programs, we strive to use every dollar we receive efficiently and effectively. And we do.

For every dollar donated to Good Shepherd Food-Bank, we can provide over $12.50 in food to those struggling with hunger in our state.

It's a gift that keeps on giving!

On-line Gifts: It's easy and convenient to give secure online donations to Good Shepherd Food-Bank!

Stock Gifts: Make a donation of appreciated securities to the Food-Bank at Year End or throughout the year. You will help further our mission while also minimizing capital gains taxes.

Remembrance Gifts: There may be times throughout the year when you wish to pay tribute to others and conventional ways of expressing good wishes, thanks or sorrow seem inappropriate. Make a donation to honor a friend for a special occasion such as birthdays, holiday, anniversary, new home, new baby, or to remember a loved one or co-worker. Your designee will receive an acknowledgement informing them of your generous gift.

An acknowledgement of each Remembrance Gift is sent to the person or family of the person in whose name the gift is made. No amount is mentioned unless the donor requests it. Donors receive a separate acknowledgement stating the amount of the gift for income tax purposes.

Charitable Gift Annuity/Deferred Charitable Gift Annuity: Contact your financial advisor with specific questions that you may have pertaining to Gift Annuities

Make a gift of cash or appreciated securities to Good Shepherd Food-Bank which guarantees, by written contract, to pay the donor (and a second beneficiary, if appropriate) a specific amount quarterly for life. A portion of the income may be tax-free. If appreciated securities are used to make the gift, there is a capital gain liability that can be spread over the actuarial life of the donor. The amount of the charitable deduction is based upon the amount of the gift and the age of the donor.

The donor irrevocably transfers cash, appreciated securities or other marketable assets to Good Shepherd Food-Bank in exchange for a fixed annuity payment for life and/or a second beneficiary. The donor receives a current income tax deduction based on the present value of the gift. The annuity payment is calculated on the value of the asset, number of beneficiaries (1 or 2) and the life expectancy of the beneficiaries.

This gift type is similar to a Charitable Gift Annuity, except the payments are deferred to a future date. The longer the deferral period, the greater the payout and charitable deduction will be. This is an excellent gift vehicle for individuals who wish to delay the income or younger individuals wishing to supplement future retirement income while obtaining the largest charitable deduction now. Beneficiary must be 50 years or older. Contact the Foundation Office for detailed information.
